The YMCA building with spectacular architectural features constructed in 1906 in Macon’s historic district is the site of the City Club of Macon. The top two floors were gutted to open air…and a new roof dropped on top with no interior supports needed.
ANDERSON PLUS responsible for project management and owner’s representation designed the interior architecture; and selected all interior furnishings, art, accessories, and antiques. The design is classic Georgian with English and French antiques and reproductions to provide the grandeur and graciousness of the “Old South” for Macon’s business and professional leaders, and guests. Anderson enhanced the Grand Foyer with the dramatic addition of Georgian columns and the re-creation of the original skylight with a cove lighted ceiling to add a feeling of intimacy. Anderson wanted the club to look as if it had been there since the early 1900’s. At the opening reception a venerable resident of Macon said “This club looks like it has been here forever!”
